GENERAL QUESTIONS
WHO IS RTOC ?
RTOC is stand for Rural Teaching Organisation Cambodia is a registered non profit organization where is located in Thnol Trong Village, Bakong District, Siem Reap which was opened in February 2010 by Mr Poeuy Tith.
HOW CAN I HELP THE SCHOOL ?
You are welcome to be a volunteer or if you would like to give donation (cash or goods) kindly contact us for more information.
WHAT IS GREATEST CHALLENGES OF RTOC NOW?
There are several challenges that limit development of education at this rural places such as proper classroom, education facilities/materials , clean water, and etc. Another would be the long term teachers that can stay and provide consistent teaching in the schools.
We still try our best to maximise the donation we get to build classroom and do as much as we can at the moment to help the kids.
HOW CAN I MAKE THE DONATION ?
You just need to direct bank transfer money to RTOC from your local bank or by any Western Union and etc. For more about RTOC bank account info please refer here.
DO YOU ACCEPT ANY ONLINE TRANSFER EG. PAYPAL AND ETC. ?
So sorry we still in the middle apply our official online account as Paypal and etc. A lot procedures need to go throughin Cambodia. Once it been done it will be update at the website soon. For now donation only can be done by bank transfer manually.
WHAT WE WILL DO WITH THE MONEY THAT GETS DONATED
First and foremost, nobody is getting paid, nobody gets a salary, we are 100% nonprofit and volunteer.
All the money will go for the school (RTOC) as for facilities build up, new classrooms, educational materials, transport fees and many more which mainly for school only.
VOLUNTEER QUESTIONS
WHAT CAN I HELP AS VOLUNTEER ?
You can volunteering as teacher, or any other skill you may apply as computer skills, contruction building skill, any other kind of helps too. As long as you want to help.
HOW LONG DO I NEED TO STAY FOR MY VOLUNTEERING?
It’s up to you, you can come for 3 days, 3 months or 3 years too. Depend on your availability only, as long as you really want to help.
DO I NEED ANY TEACHING EXPERIENCES OR QUALIFICATIONS TO BECOME TEACHER VOLUNTEER ?
No, there is no need any qualifications or experiences at all. As long as you can speak well in English or Chinese then you can teach here. We will provide you some basic teaching materials and the way how and what to teach.
HOW MANY HOURS A DAY WILL I BE TEACHING ?
The hours are flexible. Volunteers can choose to work during morning classes, afternoon classes or both. There is plenty of time for down time to see the village, spend time with the locals or make the short trip to Siem Reap if you wish.
We are flexible here to discuss and arrange the volunteers’ job and respect the needs and desires of the volunteers. If teaching isn’t your thing but you’d still like to help then it is possible to come to the school to run some games and songs with the students in English during their breaks.
WHERE DO I STAY DURING MY VOLUNTEERING TIME ?
You will live in the volunteer shared house behind the school. You will be provided with a mosquito net, bed, fan and electricity for any devices you may have. Wi-Fi is also available.
The Khmer style bathroom is communal with other volunteers – a typical squat toilet and bucket shower.
HOW MUCH DO NEED TO PAY AS VOLUNTEER ?
We have no income to support your stay; therefore we ask that you contribute towards your accommodation costs.We do ask $50 per week donation from each volunteer.
The money will go toward meals, accommodation and a small amount for school supplies. $30 goes toward your food and accommodation. $20 goes toward supplies and building the school.
If you willing to donate more, it is most welcome and helpful too.
